This is arguably one of the most important books of our time and I’ve been struggling with wanting to give this book a great review due to the content which I am largely familiar with, unfortunately I found the title greatly misleading. I was so in hope of finding ‘hope restored’ but found just the opposite. At the end of the book there is a list of ‘Should's’ and the only guidance on how to actually achieve these is ‘if many millions of ordinary Americans contact the President their Congressman/Woman and Senator’. Which is very clearly not happening in the USA or anywhere else in the world.
My first reaction was feeling gutted that there was no more leadership (so desperately needed) or guidance than effectively - you’ll have to do it yourselves, but I guess that's the point. If I/we don't then who will? and the more of us that do take action the more likely people of Paul's standing (He held several senior ministerial positions in the Canadian government) will take action and the more likely change will happen. A positive that I can take away is the mention of an organisation Avaaz.org that I have been supporting for several years. They are independent of any company or government and work on political, environmental and humanitarian causes around the world. Perhaps this may be the organisation that turns the world around?
Paul you have done such an amazing job of raising awareness of so much injustice and corruption by the so called leaders in our world and what it would take to fix it, for having the courage and determination to do so I sincerely thank you. I wish there were more people like you in the world, it would be a vastly better place, but what will change when facing such incredible odds is yet to be seen. I believe that one of our greatest challenges is the limitations of the Human mind to appreciate what can’t be seen and the comfort zone that so many of us live in.
If you're not familiar with Paul’s work and this book has caught your attention, then this can certainly help to stretch your views of what has and is happening on and near our planet. If you are familiar with his work and are looking for hope to be restored I fear you may be left wanting, unless of course it inspires you to take action?
